easyJet extends 2 new routes to Djerba

British low-cost airline easyJet recently launched two new direct routes to the Tunisian island of Djerba for the winter season. The company plans to extend these lines into the next summer season to meet high demand.

As part of its winter programme, easyJet has been operating regular flights to the island of Djerba from London Luton Airport every Tuesday and Saturday from 5 November.

Since 11 November, the low-cost airline has also operated two regular flights to Djerba airport from Manchester airport, every Monday and Friday.

“EasyJet will continue flights for the summer season”

According to Helmi Hassine, director general of the National Tourism Office (ONTT), quoted on Tuesday 12 November by the specialized website Travel Gossip, the company will have to extend these new lines until the next summer season.

This decision is due, according to the manager himself, to the strong demand experienced by the island of Djerba, known in particular for its Mediterranean beaches and its white cities.

« We have learned that easyJet will continue flights for the summer season and will confirm this information shortly after the World Travel Market in London », indicated the director of the ONTT during this event held in the British capital. “ Demand is high “, he clarified.

Using new routes recently launched by easyJet, tour operator easyJet Holidays has added packages to Djerba, with offers lasting up to 28 days.

For example, seven nights, all-inclusive, at the five-star Ulysse Djerba Thalasso & Spa hotel costs £417 (€417) per person departing Manchester on 25 November 2024.

As of 31 October, 278,000 British tourists have already visited Tunisia

Towards the end of this year the number of British tourists in Tunisia is expected to reach 300,000 visitors. As of October 31, 2024, 278,000 British tourists have already visited the destination Tunisia.

British visitor numbers are up 60% on last year and 44% on pre-pandemic figures.

In this regard, Helmi Hassine says that British tourists are starting to look for more than just a beach holiday. According to him, advance bookings for the destination have increased by around 20-25%.

« We are very optimistic because in other markets visitors are purchasing excursions to experience something other than the beach “the official said. And add: “ every British family or small group can benefit from a tailor-made experience, such as walking, cycling or cultural experiences ».
