FAI places to see on Sunday 8th September

The eleventh edition of the Panorama Day dedicated to the best Italian landscapes, that is 14 protected assets from FAI (Italian Environment Fund) plus Oasi Zegna. From north to south, this is the perfect opportunity to observe, learn about and explore places of great historical and cultural charm: villas, castles, thousand-year-old abbeys, as well as splendid parks and gardens. Why visit them this weekend? Because throughout the day on Sunday there will be many activities to help you get to know them, such as guided tours, Trekking at sunset and walks naturalistic.

This great project of environmental and social valorization wanted by Ermenegildo Zegna and sponsored by FAI, it was born in 2014 to promote and spread knowledge of the multifaceted Italian landscapes. From the Castello di Avio in Trentino to the Bosco di San Francesco in Umbria, up to the Saline Conti Vecchi in Sardinia, let’s discover together what this year’s program has in store and which are the protagonist places.

The initiatives organized throughout Italy

During the day on Sunday you will be able to participate in various recreational and cultural activities accompanied by specialized environmental guides: they will tell you the stories that make these landscapes even more special. The goal is to offer you a truly immersive experience in fourteen fascinating places with unique features, which can be observed “from afar” but also discovered “up close” by following, if you wish, the guided or suggested itineraries for the main places of interest in each territory.

Northern Italy

Let’s start discovering the initiatives starting from the north of Italy. In Trentino-Alto Adige The Avio Castle in Sabbionara di Avio will welcome you with guided tours, walks around the castle to admire the fortress from an unusual observation point and with a fun treasure hunt perfect for families with children. In PiedmontInstead, expert hiking guides will accompany you to discover the Masino Castle and Park in Caravino (TO) with a panoramic walk inside the historic garden. Families and children will also be able to participate in a workshop for the creation of a small book with drawings, collages and memories collected on this day.

Always nestled between the Ivrea mountains is Villa Flecchia in Magnano (BI)where an afternoon dedicated to observing the views of the Canavese is proposed. On Sunday 8 September it will be possible to choose between a guided tour of the painting collections and a tour followed by a theoretical and practical lesson in watercolour from life, to create your own view to take home as a souvenir of the experience (reservation is mandatory).

Let’s move on to the medieval fortress of Manta Castle in Manta (CN) where you can dedicate the whole day to the conscious observation of the surrounding panorama or participating in trekking routes in the surroundings of the manor. The place of choice for this day is theZegna Oasis in Trivero Valdilana (BI) where, in addition to the exhibitions “From sheep to shop” and “Atmosferica. Stagioni e temperamenti” set up in Casa Zegna, it will be possible to visit, guided by FAI volunteers, the garden of the founder Ermenegildo Zegna. There will also be live performances such as the string orchestra that will perform one of Verdi’s masterpieces.

Moroni Palace in Bergamo will propose a walk in the greenery in the company of an environmental expert, while Villa of the Bishops in Luvigliano di Torreglia (PD) will open the doors of the first of the Venetian villas. Finally, in Liguria, it will be theAbbey of San Fruttuoso A Camogli (GE) to open its doors for a day to discover the historical evolution of the abbey complex, the village and its landscape.

Central Italy

Let’s move on to the initiatives organised by Panorama Day in Central Italy starting fromGarden on the Hill of Infinity in Recanati (MC)which will welcome visitors for a guided tour, and from Forest of San Francesco in Assisi (PG)which offers a journey through symbols, art and nature along a path that unites art, landscape and spirituality. All this together with the medieval guide Monica Lupparelli, who will lead visitors on a path that passes through the woods. Let’s move to the Lazio where at Villa Gregoriana Park in Tivoli (RM) the history of this unique and uncontaminated place will be revealed thanks to a three-way story with an art historian, a biologist and a gardener.

Southern Italy and Islands

Finally, we come to the program dedicated to the landscapes of Southern Italy starting from Ieranto Bay in Massa Lubrense (NA)which offers guided treks on the paths of the Bay, Monte San Costanzo and the territory of Massa Lubrense, as well as marine explorations in the Marine Protected Area “Punta Campanella”. The walk will end with a dive into the wonderful colors of the sea of ​​the Bay, for a kayak or mask and fins dive. In addition, you can participate in a trek on the Sirenuse trail and the two special visits in the rural landscape of Ieranto.

In the Islands, it will be the Kolymbethra Garden In the Valley of the Temples Natural Park (AG) to celebrate this day with a watercolor workshop for adults and children. Finally, in Sardinia, the main locations will be the Conti Vecchi Salt Pans in Assemini (CA), which will welcome visitors for a tour on a little train among the salt pans, extending the usual route to allow photographers and enthusiasts to take pictures of lesser-known corners of the Santa Gilla Lagoon, and the Talmone Battery in Palau (SS). The latter will offer a series of activities dedicated to families and also suitable for the little ones to discover the typical flora and fauna of the Mediterranean scrub and the hidden corners of the former military zone.
