Some families spend at least 10,000 euros

As the summer season approaches, many Algerians abroad are booking plane or boat tickets in anticipation of a vacation in their home country.

Although it is a source of pleasure and an opportunity to reconnect with mother earth, this trip is increasingly expensive, making it almost impossible for many members of the Algerian diaspora, especially in a context marked by the economic crisis affecting Europe.

According to Samir Chaabna, former MP of diasporacosts related to travel to Algeria can easily reach 10,000 euros for some Algerians living abroad.

“When an Algerian family with 5 children settled abroad decides to go to Algeria, they need the sum of 10,000 euros,” he assured in a video published on social networks in which he tries to explain where all this money ends up.

Holidays in Algeria: you have to count the tickets, gifts and expenses

According to him, several expenses await this family. In addition to the costs of billets which according to him amount to around “500 euros per person” or “from 4,000 to 5,000 euros per family of 6 or 7 members”. When you arrive by boat “you also have to think about the cost of transporting the car”, he underlined.

There are also expenses for gifts to bring along for family and friends in Bled. “When an Algerian from abroad returns to Algeria, he has to buy gifts for his family,” says Mr. Chaabna.

He incidentally deplores the fact “that in the past the gifts were symbolic, unlike today where it is the members of Bled’s family who demand what they want to receive”. He adds that members of the diaspora are often forced to carry “iPhones which are very expensive.”

Finally, the former parliamentarian reminds us that families will also have to provide a sum of money to cover their needs during their stay in Bled. “In total, the minimum sum is 10,000 euros, which makes it impossible for members of the diaspora to be able, in this difficult context, to save this sum to come to Algeria.”

The former MP also believes that “most Algerians from abroad who come to Algeria do so for a specific reason. “They come to attend a sibling’s wedding, a parent’s funeral or something else,” he explains.

In the comments, several internet users testify that they have spent huge sums to spend their holidays in Algeria. “We are a family of 5 and we spent 4,000 euros in total,” reads a first comment. “I arrived with more than 2 thousand euros in my pocket, not counting how much I spent on gifts,” reads another.
