MEPs adopt amendment to promote long-term rental

During the consideration of the Finance Bill in Parliament, MPs adopted an amendment to make it more attractive for landlords to rent unfurnished properties.

“Less taxes for owners who rent long term!” This is the ambition of the PS deputy who made this amendment. Approved during the consideration of the Finance Bill in the Assembly this Wednesday 23 October, this amendment proposes to reduce the taxation on rentals of unfurnished properties.

Until now, owners who rented their bare property under the micro-territory regime could benefit from a 30% reduction up to 15,000 euros. The amendment calls for increasing this rate from 30 to 50% to “promote long-term housing rental.”

“Rebalancing tax benefits”

“In 4 years the number of rental properties has halved and furnished rentals have grown, in particular furnished tourist accommodation is accelerating to the detriment of bare rental assets,” explains Socialist MP Iñaki Echaniz in the report. “This amendment aims to rebalance the tax advantages of furnished rentals and simple rentals.”

This measurement is a duplicate as it also appears in another invoice supported by Iñaki Echaniz with Renaissance MP Annaïg le Meur and which also plans to address the taxation of furnished tourist accommodation.

This text also aims to discourage owners from offering their accommodation on platforms such as Airbnb, reducing the reduction they benefit from. Its exact amount will be at the center of discussions in the joint commission that will open at the end of the month on this proposal.
